Stuck On Am 7: Stuck On Tape
A Mixtape of in-studios From Radio K
One of the things Radio K has been doing well for a long time is having bands in for sessions at the Radio K studios. We air the sessions on the radio, and since the birth of the interwebs have been sharing them online, but our Stuck On AM series gives us a chance to share live sessions from bands with our listeners, in a physical form that you can hold and love and touch with your fingers. Stuck On AM (or SOAM) has been a project we’ve done about every two years since 1996, with in-studio sessions dating back to 1994. We’ve had bands like Low, Andrew Bird’s Bowl of Fire, Eyedea, Mark Mallman, The Handsome Family, Metric, Trampled By Turtles, Sam Prekop, Lookbook (r.i.p.), Daniel Johnston, and Final Fantasy, to name a few. It’s a wide-reaching mix of music, a veritable cornucopia of the bands we love and play for you every day.

With this whole slew of history behind us, we endeavored to piece together a seventh installment of Stuck On AM. We’ve had such an absurd number of stunning in-studios in the past couple years that it was difficult to choose what to add, and limit ourselves to a CD. So we didn’t. Instead we made a tape of local in-studios (because the Minneapolis music scene is so flipping great) with a download card for national in-studios we’ve done, and we threw on three episodes from our news program, Culture Queue, for a grand total of 44 free tracks. Some people called Radio K a little crazy for releasing the latest installment of our Stuck On AM series on cassette tape. We think it’s a wonder that they didn’t realize this sooner.

Thanks for coming out on Record Store Day and supporting us (and all the great record stores Minneapolis has to offer). If you enjoy the hundreds of in-studios that Radio K gives you every year, consider becoming a member of your favorite radio station and contribute today.

If you weren’t able to snag a copy at the Electric Fetus on record store day stay tuned to the Radio K Twitter and Facebook to find out where we’ll distribute our remaining tapes around town.
